If your allergies seem to be worse this year in Utah and it feels terrible to go outside, you are not alone.

Spring is a beautiful time of year in Utah where the weather is perfect...if you don’t have seasonal allergies. For those of us who do suffer from seasonal allergies, seeing the flowers blooming feels more like an impending doom.

Not only are allergies in Utah a very normal occurrence, but the allergy season is getting worse and longer.

According to Healthline, allergy season is becoming more severe and lasting roughly three weeks longer due to climate change. With the weather becoming warmer longer and temperatures staying high, plants producing pollen have more time to bloom and can produce more pollen.

So, basically if you think your allergies have been worse than normal you are totally right.

There are a few things you can do to minimize terrible allergies and the biggest one is...to not go outside. Now I know that’s fairly impossible with work, nice weather and other circumstances. However, there are days where the pollen count is higher, and your allergies will be worse off.

Ways To Help Allergies In Utah

First you will want to check the days pollen count before making any outside plans. Staying in on high pollen count days will be helpful.

If you do go outside, make sure to change your clothes and wash your face when you come back inside. This will help keep the pollen out of your home and ease symptoms.

It may also be time to invest in a HEPA filter which filters out pollen particles from your home.

Of course, you can always use allergy medications if they work on you (I am one of the unlucky people they do not work on). There are decongestants and antihistamines that can lessen or get rid of your allergy symptoms.
