Why Utah’s Electric Bills Might Sky Rocket This Year
The weather in Utah is unseasonably warm which is terrible for utility bills since it’s only the beginning of April.
Usually, one would expect to start using their air conditioning maybe in mid to late May, however with Utah beating records already for heat this early in the year, that is changing. Now, if you can get away with keeping your windows open, that’s so great!
I, however, have terrible allergies and that is most definitely not an option right now.
So, Utahns usually spend about $11.35 per kilowatt and hour or kWh. That monthly average bill is $87.41, Power Outage said. Utah also pays the lowest amount of kWh in the nation but that doesn’t mean electric bills are cheaper relative to all the other bills Utahns pay.
Basically, the housing and renting market is really expensive in the state so adding a costly electric bill on is not great.
With the weather heating up sooner, it means more air conditioning usage and spending more money. Utahns definitely would like to keep their electric bill low but how can you do that when it's already hot?
Honestly, I don’t have a good answer for you. The only thing I can say is to maybe expect to start paying your higher electric bill from now until September.
Southern Utah gets high into the triple digits in Summer and with the 90s and 80s already here, that number could go up.
Unfortunately, Utahns are going to have to decide whether or not to cut costs on other things to make way for a livable Summer and Spring this year.
Stay cool, Utah.
