Breakups are no fun and having a “breakup food” for comfort is necessary to move forward which is why you should know your state's official food in case it happens to you.

No one likes a breakup and even if it's good or amicable for both parties, there is some lingering pain or maybe loss of dreams. Luckily, there are plenty of foods to choose from for your breakup needs. Some people gravitate to ice cream, others to mashed potatoes or pizza, and even candy.

However, keep in mind that eating a full tub of ice cream or mashed potatoes will get you some weird looks.

Anyway, Utah’s official breakup food is cookies. I can see where downing a box of double-stuffed Oreos can fill the void of lost love.

Love Life Academy, a dating coaching site, analyzed trends from Google over the last year showed the top breakup foods in each state. Surprisingly, ice cream only made the top breakup food for one state; Rhode Island.

Americans overall seem to be leaning toward savory comfort food like burgers, tacos, grilled cheese, chicken noodle soup and even garlic bread.

Utah shared cookies as the breakup food of choice with Washington. Honestly, a gooey and chocolatey cookie might just be the most perfect way to cure your sadness.

Whether you choose to go sweet or savory, I hope the food you choose brings you endless comfort after your breakup. You can’t go wrong with some Utah cookies though (for break up reasons or not).
