The Worst Common Sicknesses Still Floating Around Utah Right Now
Though the weather is slowly heating up, Utah is still in prime sickness season which means staying vigilant.
It’s getting into the 70s this week in Southern Utah but despite the essence of Spring making its way to the state, sickness is still rampant. The Germ Watch of Intermountain Health Care has been keeping an eye on Utah sickness levels.
Influenza and RSV are still going around which was reported as “High Activity” by Germ Watch.
Influenza A had 1,306 cases reported in Utah during the week of February 17 and RSV had 643 cases. The Norovirus (gastrointestinal) had 36 cases the same week.
Though Germ Watch is keeping an eye out even doctors are unsure of some of the sicknesses going around. There is a whole section on Germ Watch called “Syndrome” which gives other sicknesses its numbers.
The “Flue-like Illness” levels in Utah were 1,468 people feeling sick the week of February 17.
Bronchiolitis was reported by 295 people and pharyngitis (throat swelling) by 1,624 Utahns.
Basically, Utah is not out of the woods yet when it comes to the sick season. However, sickness is trending downward in the state so that is good news.
Southern Utah has remained in the Moderate to High levels of sickness through February. Places like Box Elder County, Emery County, and Logan were all considered in the High level as well as of February 16.
So, yeah getting sick is still pretty possible in Utah and no one wants to feel awful especially as the weather starts being nice. If your coworker says they have allergies, it's best to stay far away just in case.
