The Truth About How McDonald’s Anti-DEI Policy Could Impact Utah
Utah loves McDonald's and has one in just about every Utah city but for those who are people of color or women, working there might be a challenge.
With so many locations in the beehive state, it makes sense that several people look to the chain for jobs. Whether that's starting off in high school in the work force or using it as a part-time job, who knows?
For women and people of color hoping to rise in leadership through McDonald's, the task may be more difficult in 2025.
On Monday, the company announced that it will be getting rid of its DEI or Diversity Equity Inclusion practices, USA Today said.
Previously, McDonald's had DEI policies in place and was striving to diversify senior leadership to include women and people of color. That is no longer the case. The company will also stop its program that encouraged suppliers to diversify their teams, USA Today said.
McDonald's also renamed its diversity team to the Global Inclusion Team.
A data investigation done by USA Today found that people of color were underrepresented in all levels of corporate America.
Now, Utah is predominately white but there are people of color in the beehive state. 16% are Hispanic or Latino and 2.9% are Asian, the U.S. Census Bureau said. 49.3% of Utah is female.
A decent percentage of the Utah population could be excluded from the corporate side of McDonald's under the new anti-DEI policies.
The state already has several issues with racism and certain areas and schools are under fire with lawsuits over the issue. This latest development could increase that.
