Everything You Need To Know About UT’s Stage 1 Fire Restrictions
Utah’s hot and very dry summer is just beginning, and that means heavier fire restrictions are in place.
Though there are countless signs around Southern Utah to indicate high fire danger right now, some may have missed them. The drought and dry vegetation could easily play a part in sparking an unwanted fire, especially in the southern part of the state.

Being over 100 degrees in Washington County this week reminded me of all the things people need to look out for to prevent human fires.
With that said, Washington, Kane, and Garfield Counties are in a Stage 1 Fire Restriction right now.

What Are Stage 1 Fire Restriction in Utah?
Laid out by the Utah Division of Natural Resources, the Stage 1 Fire Restrictions implement some easy-to-follow guidelines. Basically, be aware and use your common sense.
- Open fires of any kind are not allowed unless in “improved campground and picnic areas” or in private homes where running water is present with a permanent fire pit.
- Smoking is not permitted except in enclosed vehicles, trailers, and buildings. Designated smoking areas with no dry vegetation or has pavement are also an exception.
- Tracer ammunition, fireworks and other exploding devices are an absolute no. Plus, the sale of fireworks in the state is super limited until July anyway.
- You’ll want to be careful with welding projects. Grinding, cutting and welding metals near dry areas is not allowed.
- Anything with a small combustible engine like a chainsaw or ATV that does not have a spark arrestor can also get you fined.
