
New Driving Law In 31 States Will Be A Rude Awakening For Utahns
A new law in Utah’s surrounding states could mean a change for drivers who are travelling.
Earlier this month, several states passed the No Touch Law, including Arizona, California, Nevada, Idaho, and Colorado. These are places Utahns frequent when going out of state, maybe because of proximity or family members.
Well, now when travelling via car, the rules for phone usage have become even more rigid.
We all know that using your phone when driving leads to distracted driving which can have some pretty dire consequences. Utah’s current law on using phones while driving has been in place since 2022.

A person cannot use a phone for texting, calling, app usage, or reading a text message while driving. However, there are exceptions for navigation, reporting criminal activity, medical emergencies, and safety hazards.
How Is the No Touch Law Different?
With the No Touch Law, the only exception is calling 911 which means good luck navigating if you aren’t great with voice commands. Even at traffic stops one is expected to keep their hands cellphone-free.
This is a truly hands-free driving law that has been put in place in 31 states as of June 5, 2025.

While it's unsure if Utah will follow other states when it comes to the No Touch Law, the law already in place has a $100 fine for violators and is seen as a class B or C misdemeanor.
Basically, Utahns will find that when travelling to surrounding states, the penalties of the No Touch law to be much different than previous laws. Keep your hands off your mobile devices and stay safe.
