Did you know you can play a video game that takes place right here in Southern Utah?

No, I’m not talking about Five Nights At Freddy's that famously takes place in Hurricane Utah.  I'm talking about a very different game called American Truck Simulator.

Released in 2019, American Truck Simulator allows the player to drive across America as if they are driving a real big rig.

The developers have gone to rather impressive lengths to make the experience as authentic as possible. Each town you pass-through has famous landmarks and even smaller details that are unique to each city.

Naturally my first thought was to go through St. George and see how close it matched up to reality. And while there are large chunks of the town missing, they did their best to include the biggest landmarks and the most unique features. They even have the Brigham Road roundabout, also known by the locals as the “Senior Games death trap”.

The distances between the towns are also noticeably shorter, but that makes sense. You don’t want to spend an actual 45 minutes from St. George to Cedar City.

But when you do get to Cedar City, you can drive down Main Street and see some of its most distinctive features, like the old Cedar Theater and Zions Bank.

Not only is Cedar City, St. George and other Southern Utah areas featured, but the game acts as a tour through the entire United States via freeway.

It’s kind of like going on a road trip without your Dad constantly threatening to turn the car around if you don’t stop bugging your sister.

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
