Grocery Prices In Utah Aren’t That Bad…In The Big Picture
Grocery shopping is the worst because not only can it feel like a chore (it is) but it can also be expensive; however, Utah isn’t that bad.
Utahns and maybe everyone everywhere likes to talk about how much more expensive groceries are now. Now being compared to maybe 10 years ago is an accurate statement but as far as states go, Utah’s groceries are relatively low compared to others.
A study done by World Population Review looked at grocery prices per state in 2024. Utah is on the much lower end of grocery prices in 2024 at $282.23 per person per month. It sounds expensive and it isn’t great, but it could be much, much worse.
California is spending $370.96 on groceries a month for each person. This is on the higher end of the study scale. New York is spending $482.87 on each person per month just for food. That is insane.
The only state that is under $200 per month on grocery spending is New Hampshire for some reason.
Utah is roughly spending about the national average on groceries if it's a two-person home. The national average is $475.25 for a household, USA Today said. Since Utah has a relatively large family size this will differ but hey, not everything can be great.
Costs will continue to fluctuate and when you go grocery shopping, you will probably still gripe about prices. Just try to remember that Utah isn’t so bad when it comes to grocery shopping. It could be worse; you could be paying $500 per person in your household just to eat.
