Utah is a Halloween-loving state but that doesn’t mean Utahns don’t follow some “rules” when it comes to holiday decorations.

While there are many residents who begin decorating as soon as the weather changes, that isn’t possible for everyone. Southern Utah is staying in the hundreds this week and has yet to “feel Fall”. So, basing decoration time on that seems futile.

However, Northern Utah is seeing the usual drop in temperatures and perhaps even some changing of the leaves. So, Fall or Halloween decorations are definitely appropriate.

Martha Stewart did an Instagram poll in 2023, asking the age-old question, “when should you put up your Halloween decorations?” The answers vary but most agree that doing so whenever you want is the way to go, and I am inclined to agree.

Let Halloween be free, guys!

If you are a bit skeptical about this, and don’t see your neighbor’s yard filled with spooky decorations yet, well you probably will soon. The first two weeks of October are prime Halloween decorating time according to the poll.

I have a neighbor who likes inflatable decorations, and the pumpkins have been staring at my soul for about two days now. So, if you’re itching to get into the spooky vibe, now is a good time to start.

Whether you are a Halloween enthusiast, a regular mom with excited kids, or just want to win your neighborhood's annual decorating competition, you can begin now. The most important part about the holiday is to have fun and get into the spirit of things.

So, let's get spooky Utah!
