Utah Fortnite Players Could Get Refund From Unwanted Purchases
Utah Fortnite players are about to get a payout from the Epic Games company after two years of legal battles with the Federal Trade Commission.
Epic Games is under fire for having some deceiving purchase options and buttons that make “unwanted purchases” unavoidable, CBS News said. The FTC is calling Epic Games out for unlawful billing practices like dark patterns which is a tricky way for the company to make you buy things.
As of Dec. 9, 2024, the FTC is sending out 629,000 payments to Fortnite players who made unwanted purchases, CBS News said.
Epic Games will be paying $245 million to rectify the unwanted purchases either through Pay Pal or check.
You could get around $114 which is the average amount being paid to players.
Utah is a gamer state and Epic Games has published more than just Fortnite. Just last week the company updated Dauntless and has received pushback over the new aspects of the game. I for one, was not impressed at all, especially losing some gear that I had put hours into getting.
Ironically, Fortnite gaming seems to have gone up worldwide since 2017. According to Statista, Fortnite was being played all over the world by 500 million people in 2023 and seems to be going up each year.
If you are a Utahn (or anyone) who has played Epic Games, make sure to check your Pay Pal and mail in case you have received a check. Pay Pal users have 30 days to get their money, and checks need to be cashed within 90 days, CBS News said.
