Utah Catholics Rejoice Opening Of Notre Dame After Fire
The Notre Dame Cathedral was finally reopened after the devastating fire in 2019 on Dec.7 and Utah Catholics played a small but important part.
After the fire that ravaged the historical and religious building in 2019, the world watched as people came together to help fund the rebuilding of the cathedral. Not only is Notre Dame a historically relevant building but it also is a place of faith. The Utah Catholics in Salt Lake City took action to help out KSL said.
$5,000 was raised by the churchgoers asked for by the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City. Donations were asked for across the state and Utah Catholics delivered.
Though $5,000 may not seem like a lot with all that needed to be rebuilt in Notre Dame, every little bit helped.
Finally, after several years of rebuilding the Notre Dame Cathedral reopened to the public over the weekend.
Father Martin Diaz of the Cathedral of Madeline in Salt Lake said that his church synced its bells with those of Notre Dame for the opening.
“I know that my very small collection, my very small gift is some part of that cathedral… you know that a little part of this floor belongs to you, a little part of this paint belongs to you,” Diaz said.
With the Christmas season here and an encouragement to give back, the opening of Notre Dame helped by Utah Catholics seems very appropriate.
Diaz and Notre Dame are hoping for another 800 years of standing, KSL said.
