
Over 100 Amazon Prime Related Scams Endanger Utahns
Amazon Prime Day is on day two and Utahns need to be careful, especially after purchasing anything.
Scams are common now days and it seems like each month scammers get more creative. Prime Day(s) being a factor and the perfect opportunity to scam any Amazon user. Since many people use Amazon, it stands to reason that scammers like to use the name for nefarious purposes.
So, if you have participated in Prime Day be aware than no communication for the site will happen through SMS. This is a newish tactic that scammers use and once you click on a link, it leaves your personal and financial information vulnerable.
Forbes is warning customers of scams involving Amazon where scam artists use the name and a sense of urgency to make people fall for their tricks.
There are over 100 Amazon Prime focused email scams going around, Forbes said. There are also over 1,000 Amazon-related domains with over 80% of them having malicious intent.
So, Utahns (and everyone) need to be careful when checking e-mail and SMS with “urgent” news about a recently ordered package.
Amazon said it will never ask for payments via email or phone and only through the app or verified website. The company will also never have you pay with a gift card or ask you to get one so that is definitely a scam.
The company also won't ask you to download anything so be aware of websites and messages asking you to do so.
If you do have any concerns, make sure to report it to the site.
