Utahns love their bumper stickers and with the endless possibilities, it makes sense, but these personalized stickers can be dangerous.

Chances are that you know someone or a few people who have decorated their car with some stickers. They’re common enough to see on at least every other car while driving and range from hobbies, households, political affiliations and more.

As innocent as it may seem to put your favorite sports team logo on your car, or how many kids in a stick figure family line, it gives criminals an insight into your life, DriveSafe Online said.

Some observant criminals could take advantage of you just from car stickers.

Sports

When it comes to some proud parents who have a high school sports team logo, this can give people an idea of when your home might be unattended. Sports schedules are pretty easy to find, and criminals know that.

Military

For those who have veterans or active-duty members, having stickers on their car is common. However, it tells people that the home may be empty for certain periods of time or that a family member may be gone for a while.

Hobbies

Many of us like to put our hobbies in sticker form on our cars. This could be boating, motorcycles, and more. This gives thieves a look into potential “inventory” to steal from. These hobbies are expensive and getting a boat or motorcycle stolen would be a real bummer.

Basically, innocent stickers from schools, sports, work or hobbies can give personal information away while you are just driving around.

DriveSafe Online recommends keeping any stickers you want on your car to be basic or non-specific. This way you can still have your stickers but lessen the risk of becoming a target.

Stay safe, Utah.
