Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with some Irish classics

Tomorrow’s St. Patrick’s Day and though you might not be Irish, watching a great Irish movie is always a good idea.

“The Banshees of Inisherin” is great to watch especially as award season has been in full swing. It was up for several awards including Best Motion Picture at the Golden Globes. It’s a dark comedy on an isolated island in Ireland. (2002)

Hulu, Amazon and HBO Max

Next, I would suggest “Leap Year” for those who are fans of Amy Adams. It's definitely a top-tier romantic comedy with a broody male lead. It's about a woman who travels to Ireland while engaged and finds that she’s not so in love with her fiancé. (2010)

Amazon Prime and Netflix

“Far and Away” stars Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise as young Irish Immigrants who fight for their love and deal with the hardships of coming to America. I’d classify this one as drama/romance. (1992)

Prime Video, Apple TV, Redbox and Vudu

“The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns” is one of my personal favorites. It’s also a fairly unknown series but it’s a love story between a fairy and a leprechaun set in Ireland featuring actors like Randy Quaid and Whoopi Goldberg. It's fantastic for those who love action, romance, and fantasy all in one. It’s rated TV-PG making it a good show to watch with the kids. (1999)

The Roku Channel, Tubi, Freevee, Prime Video or Philo

This animated feature is pretty unique but most have at least heard of it, “The Secret of the Kells”. It’s a film surrounding Celtic lore and a young boy in a village that’s attacked. He learns of the Book of Kells which is an illuminated manuscript. (2009)

Lastly, I must recommend “The Quiet Man”. Though John Wayne is typically known for his rough cowboy movies, he does a great job being married to Maureen O’Hara who’s a hot-tempered Irish woman with some crazy brothers. It’s a love story of sorts and the antics between the two would make anyone laugh. (1952)
