Utah is known for its beautiful locations that some movie directors have taken advantage of but that’s not enough to make the movie great.

In fact, Utah was the filming location for one of the worst rated movies ever made in 1990. Not only is it one of the worst rated movies but it's also a sequel so that makes a bit more sense. Not all sequels are bad but if they are it’s less surprising.

The movie is Trolls 2 (1990).

I can see why some people don’t appreciate the old school makeup and effects, but I think there is some charm to those. Movies like Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth are beautiful and fun despite the “cheesy” effects.

However, Trolls 2 isn’t hated just because it has old school effects but because the script and the acting were...not great. IMDb has a rating of 3.0 out of 10 for the movie. It’s even worse on Rotten Tomatoes with some pretty brutal reviews.

Nonetheless, the movie was filmed in Utah. Many Utah places actually.

According to IMDb, these are all the filming locations of Troll 2 in Utah:

  • Heber City, Utah
  • Porterville, Utah
  • Morgan, Utah
  • Sundance, Utah
  • Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Park City, Utah
  • Sandy, Utah
  • Henefer, Utah

The whole movie was filmed in different locations in Utah and despite the cool scenery, it was a major flop.

To this day, I am not sure a movie has flopped so hard that has been filmed in Utah. But there are plenty of great movies filmed in the state to check out so no need to go watch this one.
