The dogs of Southern Utah are sick and tired of being stuck inside during this summer heat but there are some ways for you to keep them busy and happy while indoors.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said that enrichment for animals is vital for them to stay happy and healthy. It can also curve any destructive behavior like furniture chewing. So, since it’s way too hot to take your pup out for a hike and the Virgin River is unfortunately unsafe, it will be better to stay home and get creative.

How To keep Your Pup Happy Inside:

  • Snuffle Matts! If you’ve never tried these, they are great for super-fast eaters. You place treats or food under little flaps and in crevices for your dog to find. For some extra challenge and summer fun, freeze the snuffle mat so it's even more of a challenge. The ASPCA says you can use cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, PVC pipes, or plastic jugs in place.
  • Take it to the next level by making a scavenger hunt and hiding treats around your home (in partial view). This allows your dog to sniff out the treats and move around.
  • If you live in a house with a few rooms, try playing hide and seek. It’s fun for you and your dog.
  • Do some obedience training. It will give you a chance to connect with your pup and they get to stay occupied using their brain. This also teaches good manners.
