A conservation center and zoo in Utah has just welcomed a new resident who is extremely rare.

A white-water buffalo has now made its home at Otter and Others Zoo and Conservation in Tooele, UT. Not only is a water buffalo an amazing creature to have in Utah, but a white-water buffalo is extremely unique.

KSL News said that the zoo announced the arrival of Lily, the water buffalo on Monday and is excited to have her.

Otter and Others Zoo and Conservation were looking for a water buffalo when they came across Lily on a zoological listing agency, KSL News said. She is a two-year old river water buffalo.

"White water buffaloes are incredibly rare, with estimates suggesting that only one in every 10 million is born. This makes the arrival of our newest family member a remarkable and special occasion," the zoo said in a statement Monday.

Water buffaloes are suffering from habitat loss and hunting leaving only 4,000 in the wild. Lily is an endangered species, and her care will be special since it is an ongoing effort to try and keep these creatures on the planet.

The zoo is hoping to get sponsors for Lily’s care and conservation efforts, KSL said. A pond could also be in Lily’s future which would enrich her habitat.

To see Lily, you’ll need to visit Otter and Others Zoo and Conservation in Stockton, UT. The goal is to have Lily spark interest in conservation efforts and awareness about her species.
