May 25 is Geek Pride Day and Utah has never been short on geeks.

The state has quite a few local authors and some who have even made the New York Times Bestseller list. What better way to celebrate the geeks than to dive into a fantastic series?

Here are 4 Utah Authors to Check Out This Summer:

Brandon Mull

A childhood favorite of mine, Mull weaves innovative tales soaked in lore for young readers. He is best known for his Dragonwatch and Fablehaven series’. Though these books are classified for young adults, it’s a lot of clean adventure that dives into beloved fantasy. He might even be the Rick Riordan of Utah.

Mull regularly makes appearances in Southern Utah visiting schools during book releases and offering signings too.

Ally Condie

The author of the beloved teen-girl series “Matched”, Condie is a wizard with dystopian worlds of choice and control. Condie’s books have also made the New York Times Bestseller List in 2010. Condie released other series since then with her last novel coming out in 2019.

Brandon Sanderson

A literal legend in the fantasy book community, Sanderson has come out with several bestsellers. He is up there with Stephen King and George R. R. Martin and is our very own Utah version of it. He went to Brigham Young University and now resides in American Fork with his wife and kids.

One of Sandersons best-known series is the Stormlight Archive.

Elizabeth Smart

If you were around in 2002 you may remember the name Elizabeth Smart. She was abducted when she was a child, and the case was closely followed. Smart was held prisoner for 9 months. She has a memoir that details her capture and all that she dealt with. “My Story” is the title of her memoir but Smart also has another book “Where There's Hope” that talks about recovery.

Smart has been a Utah native all her life and still lives up north today.
