3 Top Rated Burrito Places To Try On National Burrito Day

Mexican food is widely loved whether its tacos, beans, or rice, and that’s why there is a whole day dedicated to celebrating a popular Mexican dish: National Burrito Day! 

The first Thursday in April marks National Burrito Day which this year falls on April 6.  

Originating in Mexico, the burrito is a combination of meat, cheese, salsa, beans, rice, guacamole, vegetables, and spices all wrapped snuggly in a flour tortilla. The word burrito was first heard in the Guanajuato area in Mexico in 1895. The term means “little donkey” and may point to the bed rolls and packs the animals carried.  

In other regions of Mexico, meals wrapped in a tortillas are referred to as flautas.  

Burritos made their way to the U.S. in the 1930s at a restaurant in Los Angeles called El Cholo Spanish Café. It's been a popular dish ever since and can be found on restaurant menus across the world.

La Cocina offers tortas, tostadas, and other common Mexican food options. The location has a variety of options for burritos from smothered with sauce to a simpler burrito which has no meat.  

Pepe’s Tacos  

Yes, this place is mainly focused on tacos but, they have a few burrito options that locals think are 100 percent worth the money. Pepe’s Tacos is a food truck and not a “brick-and-mortar" location. There are “generic” burritos available with the usual meat, beans, and rice and the restaurant also offers chimichangas and Chile Verde burritos for variety.  

Google Reviews rates Pepe’s Tacos a 4.7 with 207 comments bringing it into second place.

With a 4.6 on Google Reviews and 689 comments, Sanchez Mexican Food takes third. Of all the top-rated burrito locations, Sanchez offers the most variety of dishes. There is a burrito plate that comes with rice and beans and a choice of meat (eight options). Breakfast burritos are also popular at Sanchez Mexican Food along with more unique burritos like machaca and Chile Relleno.
