Utah’s Most Dangerous University: Violent Crime Statistics

Utah has several universities, each one with its own challenges and issues but at least we didn’t make this one list. 

With crimes like theft, rape, manslaughter, and aggravated assault on college campuses, finding the right one can be a challenge. Places of education are supposed to be just that, no worry of something awful happening while there. Unfortunately, we live in a world where that isn’t the case.  

Well, the good news is that none of the Utah campuses have made Degree Choice’s list for most dangerous college campuses. Gathering data from 2019 to 2021, Degree Choice analyzed data from these campuses. The University of Michigan made the top of the list of most violent crimes during that time frame with over a thousand incidents.  

The most dangerous campus per 100,000 students is Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine on the Central Danville campus. For most rapes on a college campus, Xavier University is number one.  

Utah universities made none of these lists but that does not mean there aren’t cases of violent crimes happening there.  

According to A Secure Life, the University of Utah has the highest crime rates with a violent crime rate of 3.8. Brigham Young University came in second with a violent crime rate of 1.5. 

These campuses have K-9 units, their own police force and other measures to try and keep crime rates down. To see a full list of Utah’s most dangerous campuses, click here.  

It is a shame that any campus has violent crimes happening which distracts from the true purpose of community and career building. Hopefully these statistics will go down in the coming years.
