Over the weekend a magical event took place in Cedar City bringing together book and fantasy enthusiasts.

The Cedar City Starfall Ball happened over the weekend and boy was it fantastic. For those who are unfamiliar, this is the second year that Ethereal Event Co put together a two-day event based around the A Court of Thorns and Roses book series by Sarah J. Maas.

If you saw some people around the downtown district of Cedar City on Friday night dressed in leather, beautiful dresses, crowns and fae ears then that's the event. Well, only a small part of it.

Held at IG Winery, trivia about the books took place along with a wine tasting in the back of the building. There was mingling, laughter and some very intricate outfits on night one. Afterward, the whole herd of book nerds (me included) headed over to Chef Alfredo's for a wonderful, themed dinner. The menus were made to reflect Starfall, and the options were connected to the characters from the series.

I chose the chicken spiedini which was to die for along with a tiramisu for dessert. Shout out to the waiters and staff because they were amazing for handling a party of about 100 at 8 p.m.

The next day consisted of “Valkyrie training” where a bunch of us went to Iron Springs Adventure Resort in the morning for some sword training. We learned the 8-sword-strike and blocks and froze outside, but it was so worth it.

Lastly, the main event was the Starfall Ball itself on Saturday evening where everyone dressed in fantasy attire and danced the night away.

Local businesses really came through for the event. There was a cello player for music upon entrance, a coat check and several vendors to explore.

Once I made it past all that there was the dance floor where everyone congregated for most of the evening. Hors d'oeuvres were sent out throughout the evening and made the event feel even more special.

Drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were available through drink vouchers and were super yummy. There were also fire pits to stand around outside and mingle.

Lastly, there were ballroom dancers and then a short lesson for the crowd.

The event is just what Utah needed and having it be so successful once again means there for sure will be a year three. I can’t say enough good things about the event and those who were a part of it.

If you missed out this year, there is always next year and I hope to see you there.
