When it comes to caring, people’s definitions may vary but at least on a state level; Utah isn’t doing all that great.

Though Utah has a heavy LDS population that sends people on missions mostly out of state and country, their home state isn’t well looked after. At least according to WalletHub's standards.

WalletHub looked at three things to rate caring states and cities in the U.S.; volunteer work, money donated, and people in caring professions. Those would be firefighters, social workers, medicine, etc.

How Caring Is Utah?

Well, Utah didn’t rank anywhere on the list. Not one Utah city made enough of an impact in time, money, or profession to count as caring.

This could be because many jobs like teachers don’t get great pay, or firefighters just don’t get enough recognition. However, it's pretty obvious that Utah could be a bit more caring. I say this as someone who has volunteered at a few organizations, the volunteer numbers are always low in St. George.

Not for things like marathons but at food drives or homeless shelters.

I never see many people and my own organization that I volunteer for, Big Brothers Big Sisters also doesn’t have many people. Though the people who are there are definitely caring.

So, Utah has some work to do.

Maybe one day the state will make WalletHub’s list like the most caring city, Virginia Beach, VA. That city had the top total score and came No. 1 in caring for community. It came in 15th for caring for the vulnerable and 38th for a caring workforce.

Let's see if Utah can beat these scores next year!
