Closures, closures, and more closures is all people seem to be hearing about. Well, here are some more that will have a varying impact on customers.  

In 2025, banks have been closing branches due to a variety of reasons. The biggest reason is that most people use online banking and have little reason to physically visit a bank. That means the need for bank branches is declining as more people tend to call customer service about issues rather than going to a bank location.

A study found that Gen Z only visited a bank 3.6 times a year and baby boomers only visited a bank 4.6 times a year. Also, the amount of foot traffic in U.S. banks went down from 45% from 53% in the fourth quarter of 2024, Newsweek said.  

I’m pretty sure I only visited my bank in person once last year to get a credit card, so all this info makes sense. Definitely falling into that Gen Z trend here.

Since the pandemic, digital banking has become king in the financial world. However, some people still use banks for cash deposits, loan applications and safety deposit boxes. Plus, those who have limited access to the internet live in rural communities, and older adults need access to physical banks.  

So, no. Utah banks will not COMPLETLEY go away. However, companies are downsizing to match the growing trend.
