Utah’s Medical Cannabis numbers seem to be growing at an exponential rate since the legalization in 2019.

As of April 2025, the number of patients with Utah Medical Cannabis cards are expected to hit 100,000 by the end of the month. According to the Medical Cannabis Report from March the number of card holders in Utah was 97, 935.

Most of these numbers are from patients between ages 31-40. The second largest number of patients using medical cannabis in Utah is ages 41-50. In the latest report, most of these patients were using cannabis for persistent pain, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and nausea.

Medical Cannabis sales went up in 2024 by 14% Axios reported. The industry generated $157 million last year.

In Utah, people seem to be favoring vape cartridges or pens according to the report. Vape cartridge revenue in March 2025 accounted for $7, 026,003 while flower made $4,838,769.

Cannabis vape cartridges/pens gained popularity in 2022 and have been the preferred format for medical card holders in the beehive state.

Salt Lake County has the most Qualified Medical Providers at 476 followed by Utah County at 163 QMPs.

Basically, the Utah Medical Cannabis industry is doing really well and seems to only be growing. This could be due to the amount of people keeping their medical cannabis cards and seeing more sign up as more providers prescribe it across the state.

Changes To Utah Medical Cannabis Prices:

Axios reported that the base fee of $15 will go down to $8 on July 1st. The product fee is also going down in July from $3 to $1.50.

The new bill signed in by Utah Gov. Cox also allows for medical providers to have an easier time recommending medical cannabis to patients and outlines new warnings for cannabis products sold in the state.
