Times are tough right now when it comes to the job market since so many big companies are either going bankrupt or downsizing.  

Earlier this year, Joann’s Fabrics went away and food chains that used to be popular are no more. Now, this company in Utah (and all over the U.S.) is laying off thousands to prepare for 2026.

UPS is laying off workers in the beehive state as it goes through with its “largest network reconfiguration”. The company is laying off 20,000 employees across the U.S. and closing down 73 locations by the end of June.

Besides the fact that thousands of people are losing their jobs, Amazon is losing one of its ways to deliver packages...sort of. UPS and Amazon came to an agreement earlier this year which states that UPS will be delivering less Amazon packages by 50%. So, UPS won’t need those extra hands in this cost-cutting effort. This is expected to start by the second half of 2026.

This may slow down some Amazon package delivery but that doesn’t mean it will fully go away.  

One of the reasons UPS is changing its contact with Amazon is because it isn’t super cost effective, but they don’t want to totally cut them off. So, Utahns can expect even slower delivery from UPS on some Amazon packages once that time comes.  

This change in employees will impact over 4% of the UPS workforce. However, the company isn’t expecting to lose from this but save money. Unfortunately, those being let go will be the ones who feel this the most.
