A Fun And Unique Christmas Tradition For Utah To Try
The Winter Solstice is quickly approaching and that means that you should have your Yule Logs ready.
A friend of mine recently did her first Yule Log and it looked super cool, but I was not really sure what it was for. The Yule part made sense as it means Christmas but what its relevance to the holiday had confused me.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac said that Yule Logs have been a part of Yule or Christmas celebrations since before medieval times. There are some cultures who used to wish the sun back after Winter and some who make a log out of chocolate.
When Christianity entered the picture, it became a symbol of the birth of Christ.
Usually, the Yule Log is set into the fireplace on Christmas Eve and burned through Jan.5, the Old Farmer’s Almanac said. This worked because a whole tree was involved but most of us can’t do that so finding one good log is more realistic these days.
Some people also add candles and garments to a Yule Log and burn those on top instead. Perhaps if you don’t have a fireplace this is a good alternative.
If you don’t really feel like searching for the perfect Yule Log you can always make one out of chocolate. There are easy recipes you can find online for the Buche De Noel which is a cake Yule Log. This way you can have a tasty treat and make something Christmassy.
So, get in the Yule spirit and go grab or make yourself a Yule Log.
