While Utah has a ton of lakes and streams, and is home to the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere, The Great Salt Lake, you may be surprised at how shallow many of these bodies of water are.

I could explain how deep these lakes are using just numbers and charts, but I thought it would make more sense if you could imagine these lake depths using something familiar.

At first I was thinking of using Bananas for scale, but that would take way too long.  So I decided to use the most recognizable Utah landmark in the world, The Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

The Salt Lake Temple, completed April 6th, 1893 is approximately 210 feet tall.  (That's about 21 Elephants stacked on top of each other but I don't want PETA on my case.)

So using the Temple as our yardstick, lets see how deep some lakes in Utah really are.  note: all visualizations are approximate and not exact so back off armchair mathemeticians!
