Utah And California To See Rising Egg Prices This Fall And Winter
Utahns are seeing an increase in egg prices once again as the state enters Fall and the prices are expected to continue rising.
If you’re like me, you are a fan of eggs. They are diverse and easy to make a meal with so pretty much a staple in most homes. Unfortunately, the price of eggs is rising once again because of several issues with production.
Back in 2022, a serious case of bird flu started a pandemic in the U.S., NerdWallet said. This has continued to cause issues with production and supply of eggs across the country. Even two years later in 2024, birds are being impacted. The CDC said that 100.8 million U.S. birds have been affected since 2022.
Basically, because of the bird flu and inflation, prices on a dozen eggs can be outrageous.
NerdWallet said that California cage-free eggs are up to $5.11 compared to a month ago when it was $4.71.
Utah isn’t seeing egg prices go down and half the time, there are missing spots in grocery stores where eggs would usually fill. I never buy a dozen eggs because that is just way too much for one person but getting six eggs is difficult.
In 2023, the average cost of a dozen eggs in Utah was $5.67 according to SoFi and the state could see those prices again this coming Winter.
The rising egg prices are serious trouble for Utah and all the states since it's a staple food and especially in Winter. As kids are back in school and holidays come up the demand for eggs also rises, NerdWallet said.
