Utah, get ready for a mail upgrade with the changes that the U.S. Postal Service Is implementing starting April 1.

We have all had issues sending packages and it can honestly be so frustrating! However, it seems that the USPS is working on making its services more reliable and shortening the time frame on certain packages.

A press release from the USPS said that first-class mail will retain its five-day standard with more reliability. Media, periodicals, marketing mail, and package services will have “upgraded standards” and shortened time for delivery.

The USPS is planning to lower delivery costs and save roughly $36 billion over the next 10 years, the press release said.

As part of the “Delivering for America” plan, the new changes will also get rid of redundant routes, taking a second look at air and surface options, reduce work hours.

Just like many other organizations who have been trying to find ways to cut costs, USPS has already downgraded 45 million workhours and “eliminated unnecessary facilities”.

So, what does this mean for Utah?

Basically, you may see some changes in your local USPS delivery, namely better package delivery time and possibly lower costs depending on the market. You may also notice changes in routes so if you expect your USPS truck at 7 a.m. it may change.

Your local USPS locations will have more information on any local changes that get trickled down, but you can expect to see the first changes starting April 1. This will be a two-part change and the second is coming on July 1.
