This Utah Town Was Named Most Difficult To Pronounce In The Country
Every state has some oddly named or spelled towns and personally, I think Utah has A LOT.
However, there's just no easy way to say some of these town names if you are from out of state (see what I did there?) Places like Hurricane will send East Coast dwellers into a coma trying to pronounce it correctly. Ephraim is another place that can send tourist for a loop just because it's a mouthful.
Well, Readers Digest made a list of the most mispronounced names of cities in each state. Utah’s is unsurprisingly a weird one and unless you live here and check out state news regularly, this one will be seem like some French trick.
Duchesne pronounced DOO-SHANE is the town Readers Digest labeled as the most difficult town to pronounce in Utah. And it actually is a French trick since the word's origin is French.
Apparently, it means oak tree which is pretty cool admittedly.
The name is difficult to pronounce, spell and even think of but hey, that's Utah. With all the weird ways the English language and the mix of other languages come out in the U.S. it's no wonder there are people struggling to say even a town name.
Granted, I am positive I would make an absolute fool of myself trying to pronounce towns in England or other countries so I can sympathize. Well, now you know how to properly pronounce Duchesne and can comfortably visit Utah knowing so.
Best of luck pronouncing the other wild town names in the U.S.
