St. George has a new and adventurous food stop for locals to try out in Washington City.

Southern Utah has added Indian food, Japanese cuisine, and even Jamaican food to its local food scene in the last few years. Now, it can be said that Korean food is also available in a cute shop in Washington.

After seeing a post about this new place on the St. George Word of Mouth Facebook page, I decided I had to give it a try.

Korea Picnic is located at 568 W Telegraph St #8 and is a local business run by Eunah and her family. I was greeted first thing when I walked through the door which was so nice! After that, she went through the menu with me and answered any questions I had since I’m not familiar with Korean cuisine.

The inside was bright and clean with beautiful art and fun drawings. It really did feel like a hole-in-the-wall place that had a small business charm.

Korea Picnic specializes in lunchboxes with bulgogi (beef, pork chicken) with a ton of sides.  It also serves kimbap which is a rice roll with vegetables, eggs, meats and wrapped in seaweed. It looks like sushi, but it is NOT.

Lastly, there is ramen available along with various Korean drinks, dessert, and Tteok-bokki which is a spicy rice cake in sauce. If spice isn’t your thing, they offer it in a mild and spicy flavor.

I went with the spicy tteok-bokki and a classic kimbap to-go. The presentations were neat, and I was so stoked to give it a try. First off, the tteok-bokki was awesome though much different than I was expecting. It was surprisingly sweet, and the rice cakes were chewy and soft. I give it an 8.5/10 overall.

Next, the classic kimbap was my favorite with just veggies and egg. You can get them with different seasoned meats, but I went with the simplest option. I really enjoyed it and would order it again. The vegetables were crunchy, and the combo felt refreshing and not heavy like sushi can be. Overall, it gets a 9/10.
