It has been a while since I’ve written anything about street art and murals. With that said, I decided I wanted to look at some of the street art Salt Lake City offers. Let’s look at some murals with help from Visit Utah.com and The Blocks SLC.com. Before we do that, let’s look at the history of street art first.

If you’re like me and many other people, you probably follow a street/urban art page or artist on social media. According to Google’s Arts and Culture page on street art, “no one really knows if street art happened deliberately or if it was a spontaneous occurrence, but it does seem it all started in Manhattan’s Washington Heights section and by the early 80’s Graffiti was being labeled as Urban Art”. And according to Discover Goldmark, a gallery located in England, “urban art is as old as the streets themselves”. “Graffiti has been found on the walls, marketplaces, and other areas of Rome, Egypt, and Greece”. It seems that if the materials and time have been available, humans have desired to express themselves through art.
