New Japanese Dollar Store Headed To Utah In 2025
Utah is getting a new chain store in 2025 that has Japanese culture enthusiasts and those of Asian heritage excited.
Daiso US will be making a new home in Midvale, UT, the Salt Lake Tribune said. This is one of three locations set to open in Utah with the other two not divulged. Daiso [Dye-soh] has locations in Utah’s neighboring states like California, Arizona, and Nevada (Las Vegas).
One Utah resident, Jada Kali, went to TikTok to express her excitement over the Daiso announcement gaining 91K views as of Monday. The Salt Lake area residents are excited at the prospect of having the new store open in Summer of 2025.
Kali told the SLT that having a Daiso in Utah will be nostalgic of her childhood in the Philippines.
“Even though Daiso is a Japanese brand and the Philippines is more southeast Asia, there are still some similarities,” Kali said. “So bringing just that nostalgia, at least for me – and maybe other Asian Americans might feel the same way – [it’s] kind of like having a piece of home with us here.”
Daiso is known for having affordable products like stationery, home goods and beauty products.
The Daiso US brand has 150 stores in the U.S. and is slowly expanding from its small start in Seattle in 2005.
More diverse stores have been opening in Utah like H Mart, a Korean grocery chain, which opened in June, the SLT said. In Southern Utah two Asian markets have opened up in the last few years, the Golden Fortune Oriental Market and the Asian Market St. George.
“I hope long-term, growing diverse businesses will show, especially to our politicians and government here in Utah, [that] we need diversity,” Kali said. “We need those spaces here.”
