National Park Service Founders Day in Utah
Utah is known for its National Parks and this week is a perfect time to go out and appreciate the natural beauty.
Aug. 25 is National Park Service Founders Day, the Nationals Day Calendar said. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act which essentially brought the National Parks Service into being. The NPS maintains and protects 400 areas in the U.S. in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. That’s 84 million acres (about the area of Arizona) altogether.
National Park Service Founders Day allows the public to show appreciation for all the maintenance the National Park Service does so that tourists and residents alike can enjoy these wondrous areas.
Utah is home to 5 National Parks:
- Zion National Park
- Arches National Park
- Bryce Canyon National Park
- Canyonlands National Park
- Capitol Reef National Park
Whether you live in southern or norther UT, a National Park is just a drive away. No need to cross state lines. Plus, there is a great variety of views, trails, hikes, and camping at each one. You and the family could make a whole weekend out of appreciating the NPS.
How to Celebrate National Park Service Founders Day:
- Keep the parks clean. The NPS works hard to maintain these natural spaces so do your part and clean up when you visit.
- Share some of your favorite photos from a trip to a national park on social media.
- Take a virtual tour.
- Of course, the best way to celebrate is to go out to a national park and see it for yourself.
