Keep Cool In Utah’s Surging Heat With These 9 Foods
Utah is heating up and is expected to stay warmer in the coming weeks which means more people will want to cool down.
Living in Southern Utah means constantly looking for things that will help keep you cool during the hotter months of the year. Keeping the air conditioning running 24/7 is a privilege only a few can afford.
So as Utahns head into warmer months, what can they do to cool down?
Well, eating actually helps.
Certain foods make reactions in your body that allow you to keep cool or trigger cooling effects. Keeping these foods on hand helps to alleviate heat, keeps you hydrated, and the foods are healthy too.
Utahns Should Eat These Foods When It Is Hot:
- Watermelon
- Cucumber
- Citrus Fruits
- Mint
- Coconut Water
- Leafy Greens
- Yogurt
- Berries
- Spicy Foods
The good news is that many of these foods can be mixed together in a smoothie or salad. That makes it easier to get more cooling foods all at once. However, there is nothing wrong with just snacking on some watermelon or cucumber while it's hot.
Yogurt isn’t the only dairy product that you can eat to cool down though it is probably the healthiest. Ice cream has always been a beloved summer treat, and it isn’t just because it's delicious. The yummy, sweet stuff cools you down which is probably why we crave it more in summer.
Get a mint flavored ice cream and you’ll be golden.
Just remember that though many of the recommended foods are high in water concentration, they are not a substitute for drinking water. Dehydration can become serious in intense heat so make sure you’re still drinking enough fluids.
