Deals Of The Galaxy In Cedar City?

I have no problem owning up to the fact that I'm old school, along with being just plain old. So it is unlikely to surprise you that when it comes to movies in the home my preference is to have physical copies if things to watch in DVD or Blu Ray. That's not to say that we don't ever watch entertainment through the various streaming services that we have available, but I still like popping a disc in the player. And no, snarkmasters, we are not still using VHS tapes.

So when I first drove by the Galaxy Deal Guru store, I was intrigued and said to myself, “I need to stop in there sometime.” A few days ago, I made good on my intentions. The store had been in operation for several months, and after tracking product interest and sales, they had decided to discontinue dealing in movies. So while the initial motivation I had for going in to the Galaxy Deal Guru had changed, I still found a store full of interesting and unique goods and collectables.

I had a chance to visit with the owner, J.R. Jaramillo and his son, Joshua. I asked them how they came to open this store in Cedar City. J.R. Told me, “you know it was just a dream from when I was in my twenties. I had opened my first comic book store and I thought that when I retire I wanted to retire doing something that I love to do.”

What he loves to do is collecting. Baseball cards, comic books and gaming materials are areas where J.R. has been gathering through his life. He says “I've always been a fan of sci-fi and those sorts of things, so that's why this store is become what it is.” He wants to work in what he loves and that Deal Galaxy Guru is “the dream.”

So what will you find in this dream store. If you're a pop culture fan probably anything you might want. And, if you are in to collectables this is a must visit store. They have Lego sets, Hot Wheels, action figures, Transformers, Loungefly and so much more. They also have a gigantic section of the Funko pop figures. Recently they added over a hundred new pops. They also have a huge selection of games sure to make any gamer happy. Plus you can get artwork created by local southern Utah artists. You can also grab movie posters and custom designed t-shirts and hats.

And what caught my eye, of course, was their selection of vinyl records. It is not the largest selection in the area, but I found some absolutely tasty collections that would make any record collector happy.

J.R. says a couple of years ago he was setting up pop up collectable location around the Las Vegas area trying to find the right mix of collectables, but when covid hit that idea was halted. During that time is when he discovered the Funko pop collection, fell in love with it, and since he had roots here in southern Utah he moved his family here and opened the location in Cedar City

J.R. says people have called his store a comic book store and a toy store but he says, “I'm not sure it is. I like to refer to us as a 'nerd store.' What I really found out is that everything that I love growing up through the seventies and eighties is what all the kids want to buy today.”

By the way if you're already in to collecting, they will evaluate what you have, for a small fee, or if you are trying to downsize they may buy your collections from you. He mentioned that my album collection, for example may have a degree of value in this nostalgic market.

Main Street Suite 3, right behind the Pizza Hut location. And if you see an old guy walking out of there with a stack full of records I will neither confirm or deny if it is me.
