September is the month to celebrate being nerdy in Utah.  

FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention takes place every September and something else that also takes place in September is National Video Games Day. 

NYU.edu shows the first debut of the video game at the World’s Fair in NYC in 1940. The Nimatron allowed visitors to play against a computer in the game of Nim. 

Other early entries for video games also include Josef Kates creating the Tic-Tac-Toe machine in 1950 and William Higinbotham creating Tennis For Two in 1958 according to Culture of Gaming.com. 

What you and I would recognize as a gaming console appeared in the 1960s and 1970s with Pong and the first Atari console 

Nintendo burst onto the scene in the 1980s and people were introduced to Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid. 

Here are some really cool statistics by Market Research Agencies on National Today.com. 

The top three consoles are the Playstation (38%), Xbox (38%), and Nintendo (21%). 

The top three video game franchises are Super Mario (47%), Call of Duty (21%), and Donkey Kong (19%). 

This is how often the people who said they played video games. Every day (31%), Rarely (31%), and 2-3x a week (23%). 

Here are some more cool statistics. 

360,000 is the number of arcade cabinets of Space Invaders that were sold by 1980. 

40,000,000 copies of Super Mario Bros. were sold by the game’s 25th anniversary. 

12,000,000 subscribers to World of Warcraft in 2012.
