The Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes changed the format of most of the panels at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention.

If you’ve attended past panels at FanX, the change to this year’s panels was quite noticeable.

Some panels had complete media blackouts with no photography or recording allowed. Some of those included panels from the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast, James and Oliver Phelps, and the Smallville cast.

Nearly all the panels included the provision that the actors in attendance couldn’t answer questions about their work.

The change to the panels turned out for the best because the questions became much more creative. Questions like “What kind of mythological creature would you be and why?” and “What modern invention would put a Victorian child in a coma?” are a sampling of the questions asked during panels.

All the panels I went to included an audience that was very supportive of the actors, writers, and the strikes.

At the time of this article, the Writers Guild has reached a tentative three-year agreement with the studios and streamers.
