Does Utah Have A Nudist Problem At This Popular Hot Spring?
Due to Utah’s varying and sometimes extreme temperatures, it's not exactly a nudists paradise but it does happen here.
Diamond Fork Canyon Hot Springs is a popular travel destination for many, including Utah nudists. In 2022, ABC4 reported that nudists go to the location on occasion and have been seen there in the past.
However, being a nudist in Utah is a tricky thing because well, it's not exactly legal.
Nudity in public falls under lewdness in the Utah Criminal Code. People can be charged up to $2,500 fines and that's not including if a minor is involved. If a child at a hot spring happens to see your family jewels, well that's against the law and can ramp up the charges to a 3rd degree felony, ABC4 said.
So, the law in Utah is pretty clear that you can’t be out in public naked but that hasn’t stopped some (brave?) nudists from going to the Diamond Fork Canyon Hot Springs.
Though it isn’t a super common occurrence nudists have been seen there and some even called in to law enforcement. But the problem is that witnesses have to be willing to go to court over the issue and most are not.
Unless law enforcement sees the nudist in the act or a witness is willing to go to court, a nudist can’t be charged with a misdemeanor.
Nudists generally aren’t going out without clothes to horrify people but as a way of life, which is why there are nudist colonies...just not in Utah.
