Utah State Park Suffers From Devastating Vandalism Issues
Utah’s beautiful state and national parks are visited by millions every year, unfortunately that means issues like vandalism are becoming more common.
The most recent story of a state park vandalism takes place in Southern Utah.
Snow Canyon State Park is beloved by locals and visitors alike. Though it may not have the popularity that Zion National Park does, it still needs staff and regular clean up. With increasing vandalism at the park, the three full-time staff members may not be enough, the Salt Lake Tribune said.
A powder cannon was set off in Snow Canyon State Park recently causing massive cleanup for the park staff.
With more people coming to the park, instances of vandalism are also increasing. The current staff won’t be able to handle it, the SLT said.
According to the public information officer with Utah State Parks, Devan Chavez, Snow Canyon State Parks sees more vandalism than the surrounding parks.
Items like Camel cigarette packs, smashed pumpkins, confetti cannons, and tossed flower petals are some of the things that park staff pick up. It's common to find them and can be an everyday event.
Vandalism takes hours to clean up and takes away from the other tasks that Snow Canyon State Park staff could be doing. Not only that, but it also takes away from the beauty of the park for respectful visitors.
The Utah Department of Natural Resources has asked for any information regarding the powder cannon that went off in Snow Canyon. Call the park at 435-628-2255 if you have any information.
