Utah is the location of one of the deadliest rural roads in the U.S. making it a place to avoid.

The beehive state has several roads that should be used with caution and super defensive driving skills, but Highway 6 may just be one of the deadliest. The road is a long, twisting route that makes even comfortable drivers nervous. Highway 6 also snakes its way through canyons making the road narrow.

Since 1996 Highway 6 has had over150 deaths and 500 serious car accidents, Utah Advocates said.

Some of the factors that make Highway 6 so perilous are:

  • High Speeds
  • Head-on Collision Risk
  • Busy Truck Route
  • Narrow Lanes

Though Highway 6 is certainly a dangerous rural road, it isn’t necessarily the “most dangerous road in Utah”. That honor goes to another Utah road which sees even more traffic of all kinds.

The Most Dangerous Road in Utah

Interstate 15 or I-15 is a major road that passes through most of the state, especially in heavily populated areas. It seems like every other day an accident of some sort occurs, especially near the Salt Lake and Ogden areas.

I-15 is especially accident prone because of the heavy traffic used by locals and tourists alike. There is limited visibility, and the high speed of 75 mph can make a dangerous combination.

Between the I-15 and Highway 6, Utah is home to some pretty dangerous roads. Being cautious and alert on these roads will help get you to your destination with relative safety. But remember, other drivers may not be as safe so stay defensive.
