Say Goodbye To Boar’s Head Liverwurst Forever Utah
Utah Boar’s Head locations and everywhere across the country are discontinuing a product after a Listeria outbreak in July.
Utahn’s know that Boar’s Head is commonly found in Harmon’s grocery stores across the state and if you like finely shredded meats or cheese that's where you go. Well, to whoever was a fan of liverwurst, I have some bad news. The company is permanently discontinuing the product at all locations.
I have never had liverwurst and because it's a type of sausage it's a big no for me. However, people were obviously purchasing the stuff because USA Today reported 57 hospitalizations and nine deaths related to the listeria outbreak. These cases spanned 18 states, the USA Today said.
Wondering what liverwurst is? Essentially, it's a type of sausage made from liver, usually from pork or beef. Apparently, you enjoy it with mustard sometimes between bread. Though I am not familiar with liverwurst, it is popular in European countries like Poland and German, Sporked said.
It’s been around for a long time and it’s a shame that Boar’s Head will have to discontinue the product, but because of the safety issues, the company is moving forward with that decision.
A press release from Boar’s Head said that the listeria contamination was directly linked to a production process found at the Jarratt location. This process was only used for liverwurst production, an investigation found. So, that is why the company will no longer be selling or making liverwurst.
The Jarratt facility is also going to close down permanently, the Boar’s Head press release said.
