Talk to my wife, or anyone in my family for that matter, and they will tell you I love being in the car and on the road. And I love to drive. That's why I'm not a big fan of the so called autonomous vehicles that may be coming our way. I enjoy driving.

Last week was nirvana for me. Monday I had to make an up and back to the Wasatch Front to go to a friends business to get my windshield replaced (he gives me a great deal). Then on Saturday, Tammy wanted to get out of town, so we made a run over to Page, Arizona and Lake Powell, and on the way home we decided to take the scenic route on Highway 89-A through the Vermillion Cliffs area and up through Jacob Lake. We had some chill music playing on the sound system and it was a perfect day.

Taking a drive is an activity that has brought joy and relaxation to countless people for decades. Whether it's a spontaneous adventure or a planned road trip, the joys of driving are undeniable.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of taking a drive is the sense of freedom it provides. The open road stretches out before you, and the possibilities are endless. You can choose your destination or simply meander along, letting the road guide you. With the windows down and the wind in your hair, you feel a sense of liberation and escape from the daily routine.

Driving also allows you to connect with the world around you. As you cruise through different landscapes, you can take in the beauty of nature or the sights and sounds of the city. Whether it's the vibrant colors of autumn leaves, the breathtaking views of a mountain range, or the hustle and bustle of a busy street, each drive presents an opportunity to appreciate the world's diversity.

Moreover, driving offers a chance for introspection and self-reflection. The solitude and solitude of being alone in the car create a space for thoughts and contemplation. It's a time to clear your mind, sort through emotions, or simply enjoy some peace and quiet. The rhythmic hum of the engine and the motion of the car can be soothing and therapeutic.

This may be the key reason I love to take a drive. There was a time when one of our kids lived in the Phoenix area, and we would often go down to visit. Many times, I would get to the end of the year and still have vacation time available. At the time, my wife was working, but she always encouraged me to go and see our son in Arizona. So I would take a few days and go down. We had fun visiting, but the trip down, especially, was a great time for me to de-compress and de-stress.

Additionally, taking a drive allows you to discover new places and experiences. Shortly after I moved here to Cedar City, I felt compelled to drive up to Milford. Why? I'd never been there. You can stumble upon hidden gems, small towns, or scenic routes that you may have never known existed. It's an adventure that stimulates curiosity and a sense of discovery. You can stop at roadside attractions, try local cuisine, or engage in spontaneous detours, making each drive a unique and memorable experience.

The joys of taking a drive are multifaceted. It is my go to activity when I just need to let go of the stress of day to day life. So, next time you feel the urge, hop in your car, roll down the windows, and embark on a journey of joy and discovery.
