If you don’t have any plans for this weekend, Ben Batty has a suggestion for you. “This weekend is the spring home and garden fair out at the Diamond Z Arena it's put on by the Home Builders Association and we're just really excited,” Ben told us this week on the radio show.

As far as things to see and products to learn about to improve your home, Ben says there will be a lot to choose from. “As far as vendors and booths like I'm, I'm actually shocked. There's a waiting list for people that if somebody backs out, you know, they're ready to go and it's and that and that hasn't really happened. Usually we fill up and we have one or two people that call after. But there's a whole bunch that want to get into this weekend, spring home and garden show.

Something that has become a tradition and an important part of the Home and Garden fair is the breakfast on Saturday morning which first of all is a great breakfast and a great way to start the day. But it's also always for a good cause, and this year is no exception.

Each year, the Iron County Home Builders Association picks a member or two from the community that is facing a challenging time in their lives and donates the proceeds from the annual breakfast to them. This year Ben told us they were raising funds to go to two different people.

“This year we have a girl named Zelaya Guevara. When she was two years old, she had leukemia and she struggled with that for quite a long time. Now she's 14, but they finally found a bone marrow transplant for her. They got that taken care of, and she doesn't have leukemia anymore. She was good for 7-8 years. Now she has a brain tumor. That's not good. And it is pushing against the back of her head. She's had several, several surgeries, and she's in the middle of some chemo, and she's 14 now,” Batty told us, continuing, “this is her second battle, which has just got to be exhausting for her and her parents.”

The second person to benefit from the proceeds is also dealing with cancer.

“The second family that we're going giving to is Cliff Stubbs. Cliff Stubbs is an excavator. He is involved in the home building process. He has Pancreatic cancer. He's in the middle of chemo. They're trying to shrink the tumor so they can do surgery. They can't quite do surgery yet. When he does do the surgery, he has to take about two months off work,” Batty informed us.

After the surgery, Stubbs will need to shut down his company for a time and that will strain the family finances, so the Iron County Homebuilders Association will be raising funds to help them through.

There is no set amount being asked for in a donation for the breakfast, but typically people give a five-dollar offering. The breakfast is set to start at 8:00AM on Saturday morning.

However, the Home and Garden Show will be happening on both Friday and Saturday. Friday activities start at 3:00PM going until 8:00PM. And while the breakfast will be at 8:00AM on Saturday, the actual Home and Garden Show won’t start until 9:00AM and run through the day.

There will also be prize drawings throughout the event, with proceeds from the drawings also going to assist Guevera and Stubbs. All the events will be inside at the Diamond Z Arena at the Cross Hollows Event Center.
