Chapter 12 Overthrown by Fire 73
“When you see a demon fill the air with flame, this is where the fuel comes from.” Borgin paused and smiled. “May I have a volunteer?”
Every demon in the room raised their hand except Succubus, Ghamegis and Ipses.
Surprise registered on Borgin’s sloping face. Pointing to a smaller demon he said, “Very well, you there.”

Shaking slightly, the small demon came forward and knelt before Borgin who raised one hand, making a sweeping motion. Gray dust rose from a powder on the floor. In the same movement he drew fire from a torch on the wall. For a moment the air ignited with a crackle and the smaller demon fell to the floor screaming and writhing in pain.
Succubus watched the demonstration with satisfaction.
Borgin Shifts His Strategy
This only worked once, as the next time Borgin wanted to demonstrate a curse, he did not ask for a volunteer. This he did the very next day.
“Using the properties of carbon and fire, a skilled demon can whip it into a spinning ball.”
Borgin held out the small, black rock. It rose from his hand, and it began to spin under his direction. He then drew flame to it from a torch and an orange sphere spun there in the air.
“This can be used to hurl at an opponent,” he said. “I will select a volunteer. Succubus please stand.”
