Don't move to your dream home or neighborhood in Southern Utah until the dead of summer.

Wait, wouldn't you want to move when the weather is good? You would think so, but this is a life hack I was taught recently that made a lot of sense.

I was admiring a fellow desert dwellers home. The abode had a beautiful picture window and it was facing, you guessed it, west. The view was amazing and then he told me about the oven that resembles his living room midway through August.

You have seen some beautiful areas that are drop dead charming in their good seasons, but then you visit them in the harsh months and it feels like a war zone.

Of course it's not just the heat. We bought a home in northern Utah with a neat descending driveway. It was a nice slope and seemed ideal, until winter came along and we realized the hill made it so the driveway was in the shade making sure our ice runway built up nicely and did not melt in the afternoon sun.

Not everyone has the chance to wait for the worst weather, but if you are buying your dream home in southern Utah maybe take some time as summer sets in or at least imagine your home with summer blasting its heat on your sweet crib.

Also remember that the sun shifts to the south in the winter so if you play your landscaping right you can have warming rays in the winter and blockage in the summer.

Take some time to see your heart's desire at its worst and it will help you be more realistic about living out the summer in Southern Utah.
