Succubus sat back stunned. A smaller demon was lying on his legs. As he pushed him off, a dawning of understanding crossed his face.

He's not propelling the air, he's expanding it.

Pondering Air Expansion

Later in the cavern where he slept, Succubus sat on the slab of rock and thought about what he had learned. He had assumed cursing involved willing the individual air molecules in one direction. This explained why he had made little headway. Now he understood it was a process of using his will to enhance the natural effects of the energy in gas and thereby manipulate the air pressure. The trick was in creating an area of low pressure first, then allowing the air to rush into the created vacuum. His mind was ignited by the possibilities.

It was as the old demon Ansu had said. Power came from understanding the process and it wasn’t what he had first expected. He had been focused on one approach, but now he could see the solution to the problem was from a whole different perspective. He liked this thought, and he filed it away for when he ran into other problems.
