Chapter 10 Experimenting 60
Instead of answering, Ansu reached into the bag and pulled out a plump root. He then extended a hand toward a sputtering torch on the wall. Suddenly flame flew towards the root, covering it in a soft yellow. He held it there and before long a sweet smell filled the tunnel. Smiling, the old demon bit into the soft root.

Succubus was impressed. “How do you know that?” he asked. “Did you complete the trials when you were young?” The old demon’s eyes twinkled. “Oh yes, I was a very good curser.” With a flick of his hand, the flame again flew to the root, but this time, it seemed to dance on the top. Succubus watched with fascination.
“But the Demon Lord’s didn’t like my way of thinking,” said Ansu. “Thought I was dangerous.”
“What do you mean?” asked Succubus.
The old demon stood for a minute thinking, then looked down the tunnel in both directions. He began walking while waving for Succubus to follow him.

When Ansu stopped at a cavern full of older students, Succubus began to leave, but the old demon told him to wait while he dropped the bag of roots.
Soon he returned and waved for him to continue following. They wound through several tunnels and into a part of the school that Succubus had never entered. These caverns weren’t as big as those for students and he soon found Ansu had led him to his own dwelling. It looked small with only a torch and a slab of rock. A few of his possessions were stacked by the wall.
Succubus stood uncomfortably as Ansu motioned him into the small space.
