REALLY?? The Utah Town with the HIGHEST PROPERTY TAXES is…
Dads everywhere do that thing where they walk in the house at about 5:42 p.m. and there you are on the couch watching Saved by the Bell and they give you that look that's basically: "You little..."
And the reason why they give that look is because like Kevin Arnold's dad in The Wonder Years, they bust their hump all day and a bunch of their money goes to taxes.
The county with the highest property taxes in the state of Utah is...Vernal! And all the other towns in Uintah County.
I wasn't expecting that.
According to Ownwell.com: (LINK TO FULL ARTICLE)
Local government entities set tax rates, which can vary widely within Utah. Annually, each county estimates its required budget to provide services and divides that by the total value of all taxable property within its jurisdiction, resulting in the property tax rate. While there are votes and laws involved in setting tax rates and budgets, this is the annual process. For instance, Uintah County has the highest effective property tax rate in Utah, at 1.10%, while Washington County has the lowest, at 0.40%.
I guess they have a bunch of dinosaurs which has gotta take up a bunch of the budget. And I guess if you want to be there you realize the dinosaurs are part of the appeal and you're willing to pay the higher taxes for upkeep and feed.
I don't know that I've ever been out that way but after looking around at Uintah County's Instagram it's high time we all make a trip out.
